I’m a motion designer working out of Groningen and Barcelona. I’m a great believer in letting my work do the talking, but whatever I do, I try to give it a playful edge.

I enjoy going that extra mile to make my clients’ ideas stand out from the crowd.

And when I’m not bouncing behind the computer, I like to go and explore the mountains with my bike or you can find me playing dog ball with my dog Otto.

Questions

Other things you would like to know.

  • I am working in the motion design industry for over 10 years. I worked with a number of clients on countless projects.

  • Depending on the job (big or small) I like to work with a small team. For example I work with videographers, designers, motion designers and sound designers to name a few.

  • Project brief and script: First we start by gaining a clear understanding of the client's project objectives, target audience, brand identity, and overall vision and the story they want to tell.

Research, Inspiration and concept development: Then we conduct research to gather inspiration and references related to the project. We explore trends, existing designs, and industry standards to ensure the work is relevant and innovative. After this we begin to develop initial concepts. Brainstorm ideas, sketch rough storyboards, and explore different visual and narrative approaches. This stage focuses on generating creative and unique solutions that align with the project goals.

Storyboarding: Once the initial concepts are developed, we create storyboards. Storyboards act as a visual roadmap, outlining the sequence of scenes, transitions, and key elements within the animation. Storyboards help in visualising the final product and refining the narrative flow.

Voice-over recording: Once the script and storyboard are approved, we record the voice-over. Depending on the clients wishes we outsource this part.

Design and Animation: With the storyboards approved, we move on to the design and animation phase. First we create style frames to outline the final style of the designs. Once this is approved we continue to design the full animation and bring the designs to life through animation, timing, and movement.

Iteration and Feedback: Throughout the process, we have different feedback moments with the client. We share work-in-progress versions or drafts for review and incorporate feedback to refine and improve the animation. This iterative process ensures that the client's vision and expectations are met.

Sound design: Last but not least, once the animation is finished the sound designer will bring the animations to life with the help of sounds.

Delivery: Once the animation is finalised, we prepare the final exports and deliver the animation in the required formats (such as video files .mov, .mp4 or animated GIFs). We make also tools for editors, in the form of .mogrt files.

  • Usually I work with a day rate or a project price. For small jobs I like to set a fixed fee based on an hourly rate.

  • Revisions and feedback are part of the job, usually I calculate 2 feedback rounds per step in the process. This way a client can give sufficient input and we don’t need to do major revisions in the end of the project.

  • To realise my projects I work on a daily base with the Adobe Creative Cloud platform, mainly with After Effects, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere Pro, Audition, and Maxon Cinema 4D.

  • I have two dogs, Otto and Hunter. Otto is a mix of a Boxer and English Setter. And Hunter is a German Shorthaired Pointer (GSP).
